Fifth Year of Study

In the 5th year of study, the integrated study and practical blocks further increase the interlocking of theory and practice. An essential part of the practical block weeks is the GP internship, in which you examine patients together with motivated GPs in and around Düsseldorf.

Tracks in the 5th year of study

The 5th academic year consists of a total of four tracks (5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4), each with 30 small groups (1-30, 31-60, 61-90, 91-120). Before the start of the 5th academic year, you have the opportunity to choose a specific track as part of the online enrolment process. You will be informed by the online enrolment staff in due course which small groups are available to you and which track is suitable for you. For organisational reasons, a new small group must usually be selected, although its composition does not necessarily have to change.

The second section of the medical examination (M2) takes place after the 5th year of study. In contrast to the intermediate medical examination, you must register for this independently with the State Examination Office (LPA). You will be provided with all essential information on this in good time during the 10th semester.

Study and Practice Modules

The study modules of study years 4 and 5 include central clinical subjects such as internal medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, ear, nose and throat medicine, neurology, orthopedics, etc. In addition, you will go through three "integrated study and practice modules", in which the practice modules are interlinked with the study modules in terms of organization and content.

In this integrated block, you will learn about perioperative medicine with its areas of anesthesia, intensive care and pain medicine. In addition, you will learn how to deal professionally with borderline situations of medical action and concrete emergencies.
